What counts as business mileage

Business mileage usually includes journeys made wholly and exclusively for your work or rental activity.

Common examples include travelling to client meetings, visiting a rental property, collecting materials or stock, and journeys between business locations.

Commuting from your home to a regular place of work is normally not considered allowable business mileage.

Tip

Add a short description for each journey so you can clearly explain the business purpose later if needed.

Common allowable expense categories

Sole trader examples

  • Office and admin costs
  • Travel and subsistence
  • Advertising and marketing
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Professional fees

Landlord examples

  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Letting agent fees
  • Insurance
  • Service charges and ground rent
  • Property-related travel

Keep everything aligned with your tax tracker workbook

This tool is designed to work alongside your Aurecima UK Tax Tracker Workbook. Export your mileage and expenses, then paste or import them into your spreadsheet so your records stay organised throughout the year.
